Laser Capture Microdissection

To determine the biological properties of cancer cells, it is necessary for some procedures to analyze these cells separately from normal cells that are also found in a tumor. This enrichment is mainly necessary if the tumor cell content in a tumor is below 60%.

If the histological examination reveals a low proportion of tumor cells, tumor cells are isolated using laser capture microdissection and enriched for the examination.
In this process, we use the PALM-R-Microbeam IV from Zeiss in which the desired areas are cut out with a UV laser under microscopic control and catapulted using a laser pulse into a reaction vessel for further analysis.
